Scope and Contents

This book, labeled as Volume 1A of the Congregational Church of Windham's Records, commences with the Articles of Faith adopted by the congregants upon their formal organization in 1803. It is followed by a roster of the names of those congregants who assented to the adoption of those articles of faith - being listed in two columns as Male and Female members rather than by family groups. This was witnessed by Pastor Beriah Hotchkin of the "Church at Greenfield" and Pastor Samuel Fuller of the "Church at Rennselaerville."

This is followed by a list, delineated under male and female members, of those congregants who joined the church upon its formation in 1803. Included subsequently is a register of baptisms, a roster of members of the church in 1832, Minutes of the church officers, and in the rear of the book an accounting of church expeuses. A register of burials is not given.

It seems that while the church is identified initially as a Congregational Church that its organizers and initial pastors were Presbyterian in their tradition, and by the end of this volume the Congregational Church is clearly identified as the Presbyterian Church.
