 Item — Box: LOB 2
Identifier: MV 516

Scope and Contents

This volume, identified as "Volume II" of the Records of the First Congregational Church in Windham" is more accurately the second volume of sacred records of the Presbyterian Church in Windham which at the commencement of the volume was still gathering at the old Meeting House in Pleasant Valley. The volume begins with a copy of the text of the Articles of Faith outlined originally in Volume 1A [MV 486] and includes a transcription of the names of those congregants who first adopted the articles.

This book contains a description of each meeting of the Presbyterian Congregants, naming the Reverend who moderated the meeting and the elders present. The location of each meeting is also given. Members joining and dismissed from the church are recorded under the meetings where requests to join and for dismissal were heard, rather than separately in a register.

Of note is a roster of resident members of the PResbyterian Church, at that time located within the bounds of the Town of Ashland, for the year 1878. The closing minutes of the Presbyterian meeting in the 1890s reflect the dwindling membership and poor attendance that culminated with their disbanding in 1896. A full two thirds of the volume remains blank.
