From the Collection:
The contents of this collection consist of handwritten documents in English and Dutch belonging to Johannis Brando, William Brandow, Peter G. Brandow, and others in two document containers, primarily early indentures, leases, mortgages, wills, litigation records, and other documents pertaining to real and personal property in the Loonenburgh patent and town of Cattskill dating from about 1750. Notably, the collection includes 6 bills of sale and a bequest of enslaved adults and children dating from 1769 to 1817. The collection also includes an apprenticeship indenture. The collection also includes a 1771 petition and subscription for a road from Loonenburgh to Cockatgkie in English and Dutch with many local signatories, and pages from William Brandow's family Bible listing vital records between 1788-1808. It includes pre-Civil War military appointment papers for Peter G. Brandow and donation receipt for the Athens Dutch Reformed Church between 1825-1861.
