Scope and Contents

The "Student Reflector" appears to be a collection of poetry and prose by students of the Margaretville Academy/Seminary kept during the year 1853-54. This collection of works begins as the diary of student Walter C. Palmer Jr., but after five entries the volume becomes a collection of essays and poems composed primarily by female students on various topics. The essays open with an editorial by Susan A. O'Conner and include works by Paulina Hoffman, Sally Sticke, Jane O. Barber, Ruth A. Northrop, Frances O'Conner, S. F. Scott, Ward Bellows, Henriette Hoffman, Jane Osterhoudt, A. Crichton, James H. O'Conner, Mary P. O'Conner, Emeline [?] O'Conner, Jane Akely, "Miss Crosby," William H. Barber, Richard Carpenter, Jr., "Big Thunder," G. B. Crippen, and an anonymous writer using greek letters as a signature.
