Scope and Contents
Collection comprises a selection of documents relating to the James Stevens line of the Stevens family of Greenville, NY. Included in the collection are miscellaneous papers related to fraternal orders and agricultural ventures as well as municpal and court papers which concerned the family. Of particular note is a Road Book listing the freeholders of various road districts in Greenville and the number of days labor they were required to contribute to the maintenance of the Town's roads. Also included is a minutes book of meetings held by the American Party [the Know Nothings] in Greenville in the 1850s. This minutes book lists membership and summarizes meetings.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
These materials were accepted into the collections of the Greene County Historical Society from descendants of James Stevens prior to 1977.
