Scope and Contents

Scrapbook contains a selection of newsclippings selected by the secretary and staff of the Greene County Sheriff's Office as being representative of the activities and notable events of the department subsequent to 1958 and proceeding until the early 1970s. Events of note include the arrest of Hayward Newcomb and a subsequent manhunt following his escape, as well as news related to the Greene County Jail and various other activities and expanded duties of the Sheriff's Office.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Materials were in the care of Charles Adsit of Catskill, a retired member of local Law Enforcement, and turned over to the care of the Greene County Historical Soceity on his behalf through Patricia Austin of the Greene County Tourism Department.
