Biographical / Historical

Prentice/Prentiss W. Hallenbeck [1828-1907] was born, raised, and died at Athens, New York. His farm was surveyed for this map in 1856 by "N. Van Hoesen", and this same estate is likely the one that still stands along Flats Road in Athens now designated a historic structure on the Greene County Historic Register. Of note on the map are the marked locations of a cemetery, lime kiln, and hay press among the various outbuildings all clearly marked in the vicinity of the Hallenbeck house.
