Biographical / Historical

The Great Embought, also styled De Groote Imbogt or Great Imbogt district, is a farming district orgininally settled by the Van Ordens, Overbaughs, and other families in the 18th century. The Embought takes its name from a large shallow bay at its southern end which lies along the east bank of the Hudson River and is a defining feature visible from the water or on shore.
