Biographical / Historical

The hamlet of Leeds, NY is located just west of the Village of Catskill along the route of the Susquehanna Turnpike, now Route 23B. The vicinity of Leeds was the location of some of the earliest european dwellings in the Town of Catskill, and the hamlet itself is the site of many celebrated tourist attractions and scenes including the old Leeds Reformed Church, Leeds Bridge, and the historic homes of many early residents. James L. Laraway, whose name is inside the cover, may have been a resident of Leeds or a seasonal tourist who visited there. He likely recieved this album as a Christmas gift in 1911.
