Scope and Contents

This artificial collection compiled by the staff of the Vedder Research Library describes published inventories of church records currently available on our shelves. The collection is broken down by county, and are almost exclusively protestant christian denominations.

Records are primarily transcriptions of original vital statistics records composed using typewriters or word processors. Many volumes contain custom indexes, and some smaller volumes are bound in combination with other churches. Some materials are photocopies of inventories which exist elsewhere which were donated by genealogists for reference purposes in the 1970s and 1980s.

This collection is not representative of available original materials and manuscripts of regional churches also in our care which are cataloged and maintained separately with different access procedures.
