Scope and Contents
The Vedder Research Library's back issues of the Cultivator cover roughly a 15-year segment of the publication's run in various monthly journal formats. Issues were given by various donors who possessed bound and loose copies of the journal, and the names of the original subscribers often appear written on pages of bound issues. Two boxes contain six hardcover-bound contiguious selections of the Cultivator, and one folder of loose issues also appears within the collection.

Biographical / Historical
The Cultivator was an agricultural journal originally published by the New York Agricultural Society beginning in 1834. Printed monthly, the Cultivator carried articles concerning scientific farming techniques, technology, and philosophy, and was distributed broadly across New York State. The publication survived several consolidations, and was printed in various formats through the Civil War.
