Scope and Contents
Collection comprises a large selection of photographs of Guernsey Cows and Bulls bred on George M. White's "Gayhead Farm" during the first half of the 20th century. Also included is ephemera from various events George M. White attended either as a contestant with prize-winning animals or as a judge of Guernsey Cows which he was a nationally recognized breeder of. Additional materials in the collection concern Gayhead Farm itself, notably there is a folder listing all the cattle on the farm in the early 1940s as well as a bound volume of birth reports for livestock born on the farm.

Biographical / Historical
George M. White was a breeder of prize Guernsey Cows at Gayhead Farm in Coxsackie. His farm was located below Route 385 on the south side of the Village along what is now Sutton Place [Johnny Cake Lane]. Mr. White was nationally recognized as an authority on Guernsey cattle breeding, and served as a judge at several State Fairs during his life. After his passing his wife Molly White operated the dairy farm for several years. A Cornell graduate, Molly White originally came to Coxsackie to asssist with management of the herd at Gayhead Farm.
