Scope and Contents

This collection comprises the alphabetically sorted research files of David and Wanda Dorpfeld utilised for their publication "Legendary Locals of Greene County" [2014, Arcadia Publishing]. Files are sorted by the surname of notable individuals and contain photographs of subjects, notes and biographical information on them, and correspondence concerning the development and publication of the book.

Biographical / Historical

Husband and Wife team David and Wanda Dorpfeld, in complement to their roles as Trustees of the Greene County Historical Society, developed a proposal and commenced research in 2012 for a book to be published under the Legendary Locals imprint of Arcadia Publishing. By conducting numerous interviews, consulting disparate primary sources, and securing photographic materials for subjects of interest they were able to publish their volume "Legendary Locals of Greene County" in 2014 to much fanfare.

Wanda Dorpfeld is a retired primary school teacher and currently a Trustee Emeritus of the Greene County Historical Society. She serves as an elected Justice of the Town of Coxsackie as of the publication of this Finding Aid.

David Dorpfeld is an officer and Trustee of the Greene County Historical Society, being one of its longest serving members. He served as the fifth Greene County Historian from 2009 to 2020 and remains active in the research and dissemination of regional history.
