Scope Note: Athens is a township in the eastern portion of Greene County and one of four townships in the county bounded easterly by the Hudson River. Athens was formed from a partition of the towns of Coxsackie and Catskill in 1815. IT is bounded on the west by Cairo, north by Coxsackie, southerly by the town of Catskill, and easterly by the Hudson River and Columbia County. Within Athens lie the hamlets of West Athens, Green Lake, Limestreet, High Hill, and the Village of Athens.

Scope and Contents Map shows the Roseboom Patent as it existed in 1761. The parcels shown lie between the Hans Vosen Kill and the Potic Creek and border the Loonenburg Patent, Casparus Bronck Patent, and Mathias Houghtaling Patent. Each parcel in the survey is clearly labeled by owner. Buildings are shown within the adjoining Loonenburg Patent as are the homes of Jans Spoor and Isaac Paris within the boundaries of the Roseboom Patent.
