Scope and Contents
File contains documents related to a Chancery Court proceeding against John Person, Samuel Haight and Catherine Bancroft regarding the estate of Henry Oothoudt of Catskill. This includes the last will and testament of Oothoudt, which contains an article stipulating that a "negro wench woman" be bequeathed to his daughter Catherine, along with her choice of other enslaved peoples. File also contains the affadavits of Rachel Merkle, Sarah Demarest, Lawrence Merkle, Henry O. Demarest, James Brown, and Philip Gebhard, which testify that the aforementioned defendants fraudently obtained notes of funds, as well as a deed to a farm, from Oothoudt during a period of "insanity" leading up to his death. Other items includes articles of indenture regarding land mortgaged to Person by Oothoudt.
