Scope and Contents
This is the first of two folders containing miscellaneous legal and business correspondence and business and household receipts of the Hon. John Sanderson, Esq., Mrs. John Sanderson, and Miss Adelelaide and Miss Mabel Sanderson, including New York State Bar Association fees, law books, furniture, fire hats and shirts, clothing, a portrait, drug store and general provisions, horse and wagon rental, ferries, bluestone and other building supplies, Rip Van Winkle Club dues, hotel stays, dentistry work, taxes, the Athens Rural Cemetery Association to care for lots 88 and 119, and the Baptist church. Also included are letters from nephew Bradbury Bedell, Esq. of Philadelphia and J.W. Heywood of Milwaukee, that discuss the corporate affairs of the E. Sanderson Milling Co. Letters also discuss legal opinions and proceedings (including a legal judgment against Frank Chase), Aunt Ellen [Bedell's] will, and John's impending marriage.
