Scope and Contents
File contains family and business correspondence of Charles F. Smith, including letters dated 1838-1839 from Caleb Coffin, a Quaker, that mention Castle Seeley, an offer from Henry Van Loan on the brick house,a sale of a glue factory to Abram Bedell, the Timothy Bunker estate and account, a deed for "the Negro house," and a dispute about a well. 1804 assurance policies insure the cargo of Schooners Sally, Isabella, and Seaflower out of Boston, while an 1832 letter discusses a steamship and an 1833 letter discusses the sinking of the scow Miller at West Point. An 1836 letter discusses a contract with Howland to build the school house. The file also includes a power of attorney granted by John Smith of Boston to his son John Smith, and the 1828 will of John Out.
