The Van Gelder family includes James Harvey Van Gelder (1838-1917), Catskill lawyer and proprietor of Cherry Hill House, his wife Rebecca Pine Van Gelder; their son Arthur Pine Van Gelder (1873-1947) and daughter Carrie Van Gelder (b. 1865) who married Charles A. Wardle.

Collection includes deeds, letters, clippings, brochures, receipts, certificates, military papers, account books, diaries, and other items. Includes letters and diaries of Rebecca P. Van Gelder concerning trips to Chicago and Kansas, 1883, and a stereopticon lecture tour with her husband, 1890-1891; papers of James Harvey Van Gelder consisting of docket books, 1875-1908, family and personal letters, 1855-1904, letters, brochures, and clippings on his lecture tour, 1890-1891, and letters and reports on the Catskill water works, 1897-1905; family and personal letters to Carrie Van Gelder Wardle, including those from Bertha Johnston, 1870-1915; programs and photographs concerning the music career of Constance Wardle, 1914-1955; letters by Charles A. Wardle concerning water works projects and family business affairs, 1905-1922; letters from Francis A. and Isabel Wardle concerning gold mining in Oregon, 1898, experiences in Japan and China, 1900-1902, and life in San Francisco, 1902-1906; account books of Peter Fiero, 1836, John Fiero, 1837-1878, and Frederick G. Fiero, 1907-1917; guest register of Cherry Hill House, Catskill, 1895-1898; and a paper by Winifred Wardle Fiero on the family history, 1984. Collection also includes the Civil War letters of Augustus Pelham, Jr. of the 110th Regiment from Oswego.
