Day Book of Dr. Nelson Fanning
Item
Identifier: MV-108
Scope and Contents
Large bound volume with daily accounts of Dr. Nelson Fanning's medical practice in Catskill, New York. Patients and debtors listed include many notable Catskill residents from the time, including Frederic E. Church, Maria Cole, Mary Cole, and Theodore Cole.
An inscription on the front cover reads, "Dr. Fanning's Day Book Catskill - cor. Bridge St. and Prospect Ave." This implies that the book belonged to Dr. Nelson Fanning Sr. (1808-1896) who lived at 49 Prospect Avenue in Catskill. However, other sources seem to imply Dr. Nelson Sr. may have retired by the time of this volume's creation. His son, Dr. Nelson Fanning Jr. (1838-1904) also practiced in Catskill. It is possible this day book belonged to him.
