Map of the Village of Catskill
Item — Case: Flat File Drawer 14
Identifier: MAP 2019.0014-7C.7
Scope and Contents
This map is an interesting survey of the lower portion of the east side of the Village of Catskill. The map is made from a 1795 survey completed by William Cockburn and shows the section of Catskill creek from the Hop-o-Nose to Femmen hook prior to the contruction of the Long Dock. Included in the map are the surveyed village lots along Main Street, surveyed lots under water north of the mouth of the creek, and the names of some property owners. Of particular note on the map is that the homes of Isaac DuBois and Abraham Van Gorden are shown, these being two of the earliest buildings in the Village of Catskill. Also included is a rough rendering of the docks at the foot of Greene Street, which was the original landing place in Catskill Creek prior to construction of the Long Dock and later Catskill Point.
