A Selection of Documents and Maps from Peter Luke

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: MSS 2021.0004

Scope and Contents

This small collection of documents are a random sample of items assembled by Peter Luke in the course of his business as a rare book dealer. An inventory of items is included, but notable items include an early indenture from the Embought in Catskill, as well as a small map titled "Ashley's Plan of Catskill" which was likely a draft suggested layout of the proposed Village of Catskill in 1806. The Ashley Map shows the Presbyterian Meeting House, Benton's Slaughter House, A Shipyard, Court House, Jail, and Burying Ground among other things. Also included is a petition concerning the operation of the "Horse Boat" [Hudson-Athens Ferry] at Athens in 1831 signed by 78 male residents of the Village.

Subsequent accessions to this collection remain unprocessed but include paperwork concerning the operations of the Baldwin Shipyard at New Baltimore and miscellaneous ephemera collected by the late Al Feldbin related to the Village of Athens.
